The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a Helbling Red Series Reader for CEFR A1 learners, adapted by Geraldine Sweeney from L. Frank Baum's 1900 story. In about 64 pages, Dorothy and Toto are carried by a Kansas tornado to Oz, follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City, and meet the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion. The adaptation keeps Baum's silver shoes, not the film's ruby slippers. Colour illustrations, activities, vocabulary work, and British-English audio in the Helbling Media App work well for lower-secondary reading lessons, colour vocabulary, and simple role-play with "I want..." structures.
