Little Women is a Helbling Red Classics graded Reader for CEFR A1 learners, adapted by Janet Borsbey and Ruth Swan from Louisa May Alcott's 1868 novel. The softcover story follows the March sisters in New England while their father is away as an army chaplain during the American Civil War. This version concentrates on girlhood: Christmas at home, Meg's feelings for tutor John Brooke, Amy's link with Laurie and Beth's illness, treated gently for younger readers. It has about 80 pages, full-colour illustrations, British-English audio in the Helbling Media App and activities on Helbling e-zone. In class, it fits family vocabulary and short writing such as "Which sister are you most like?"
